5 Cruelty-Free Products For Flawless Curls

All my girls with curly hair know there’s nothing worse than dry, limp curls. Our hair needs more moisture than other hair types so giving it what it wants will make all the difference. Moisturized, frizz-free, defined curls are something we’re always dreaming of and after years of trial and error I’ve finally developed a system that works for me. These are the five products I swear by for keeping my hair soft, bouncy and moisturized.

Moroccan Oil Curl Defining Cream

This product is especially great for the days our curls can’t decide whether they want to be ringlets or waves. Its light consistency will help curls bounce up while still maintaining their soft, ringlet shape. You don’t need to use too much, I would say about a dime size is enough for medium length and medium thick hair. I would recommend applying while your hairs still damp in a scrunching motion starting from the ends and working your way up. Don’t let the term scrunching scare you though, this stuff is cream based and won’t harden your curls in the slightest.

Not Your Mother’s Dry Finish Texture Spray

I’m very excited to announce Not Your Mother’s is on their way to getting the Leaping Bunny sign of approval. They do not currently test on animals and will be making it official as soon as all the processing and paperwork goes through. This dry finishing spray is great for a little extra volume and, despite the name, it won’t dry out your curls. If anything using too much of this stuff will actually cause hair to become greasy. With just a few sprits at the root and mid-shaft it adds a nice amount of texture and movement giving your curls a big, beachy look.

Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo

Again, though the name might be misleading, this stuff prevents drying out your curls. Dry shampoo is great for extending the amount of time you can go between washes and as we all know, over-washing curly hair can cause it to fall flat and limp. This particular one is my favorite because it doesn’t leave that white chalky residue that a lot of dry shampoos are known for. A little goes a long way though, don’t overdue it or it can dry out your curls for sure! To apply, spray it at the roots under the top layer of hair and massage it in with your fingertips.

Shea Moisture Treatment Masque

This product is by far my favorite hair masque of all time. I use it once a week and it makes an immense difference on the health and bounciness of my curls. My favorite way to apply it is during a steamy bath with a shower cap on to let it really soak into the hair. As with all Shea Moisture products, there’s so many great ingredients being used. The castor oil, shea butter and coconut oil in particular are known for helping with hair growth and nourishment.

Hair Saver Split Second Leave In Conditioner

There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not using this miracle in a bottle. The second I step out of the shower and (terry) towel dry my hair I spray this stuff in. It’s the only product I’ve found so far that gets rid of frizz without weighing down my curls. The best part is it can be sprayed into the hair so you don’t have to brush it or disturb the natural curl pattern. I’m able to evenly distribute it just by spraying and lightly scrunching. I also use it to refresh my curls every morning and it pops them right back up. Ever since I got my hands on this stuff my curls haven’t been the same.
